MSc Computing Project

This module involves developing a Computing Project and a Dissertation. The project will help me develop technical and transferable skills such as critical thinking, planning, communication, investigation, time management, and data collection. It will involve individual, in-depth research and the development of a stand-alone artefact. I will be free to select a topic of my choice and am encouraged to publish my work with the affiliation of "The University of Essex Online" and my supervisors as co-authors.

In this module, I shall:

● Contextualise the role of my project and dissertation in my studies.

● Understand the methods of project planning.

● Investigate ways of identifying, quantifying and mitigating any risks.

● Explore a range of project types and appropriate research methods.

● Develop the concept of a literature review and horizon scanning.

● Engage with the ethical issues associated with my research.

● Understand the issues surrounding intellectual property in research.

On completion of this module, I will be able to:

1. Systematically identify research problem(s) within a suitable research topic involving computing.

2. Carry out, structure, and present effectively a focused critical and analytical reading and synthesis of accessed information on the topic.

3. Articulate my topic's professional, legal, ethical and social issues and follow relevant professional codes of conduct.

4. Evaluate the research conducted critically and present the resulting artefact as a form of defence of the research.
